Employee Sickness Fraud

It is estimated that Employee Absenteeism cost UK businesses around £17bn in 2009 with 27m working days lost to absenteeism (source: CBI).

Not only is it costly in terms of Sick Pay, but Loss of Productivity is the most significant cost of absence and it has a “knock-on” effect in terms of costs associated with engaging Temporary Staff to cover for absenteeism.

Taking these indirect costs into account brings the total estimated cost of absence in 2009 to £29.9bn (source: CBI).

Not all Employee Sickness is genuine. Many employees are out to “milk the system” by making out their sickness or injuries are worse than they actually are. Many have genuinely been ill either through sickness or injury, but have since recovered. However there are some that prolong that recovery period and still claim to be incapacitated when in fact they are fit to return to work.

At Kelvingrove Investigations we specialise in detecting Employee Sickness. We gather evidence whether it be Video or Photographic to substantiate our findings. Written reports on our Observations are sent to the employer on a daily basis or at the end of the investigation. This can be by email or post, whichever the employer prefers. It is entirely up to the employer as to how and if the evidence is going to be used. In many cases the employer just wants confirmation of what he or she already suspects.

This is perfectly legal as observations are conducted in a public place. There is currently no law in the UK against making observations or taking photographs or videos in public.

Our rates are very competitive and surveillance is normally done on a half-day or full-day basis although this would be at the discretion of the employer (our client).
